Artistic Statement
For me, filmmaking is like using a camera lens as a scalpel–cutting through social problems and human hearts.
Growing up in a Chinese public school obsessed with test scores, I often felt suffocated. Processing that experience has been a driving force behind my work. In my first film, Fish Tank, I captured the anxiety and pressure I once couldn’t express. The process of making this film not only brought me relief, but it also helped me take a stance against the rigid educational system that shapes so many students’ lives. Later, in Unlasting Dream, I explored the doubt and dismissive attitudes people hold toward "unrealistic" artistic dreams. I feel most gratified when audience members tell me my film resonated with them. Hearing their stories and the impact my film had on them affirms my commitment to shed light on shared experiences and connect through visual storytelling.
In the future, I am committed to becoming a filmmaker with professional filmmaking skills and a solid foundation in film theory. I hope to translate my concerns about social issues into visual language through my films, offering audiences unique insights from my work.
